Family Treatment Centers
When outpatient services are not enough, Familylinks offers Family Treatment Centers in Allegheny and Fayette Counties. Designed for all women 18 and older, including pregnant and parenting women, these centers provide a place to stay while receiving long-term treatment.
Priority is given to pregnant intravenous drug users, intravenous drug users, pregnant substance abusers and women with substance abuse issues.
The 4 to 6 month residential program focuses on:
- Achieving and maintaining abstinence.
- Developing recovery tools.
- Increasing life skills.
- Improving parental skills.
- Preserving family relationships.
Mothers are encouraged to bring up to two of their children up to age 12. Child services include:
- Age appropriate activities.
- Evaluation of parent and child.
- Weekly Children of Addictions Group.
- Supervision while mothers are participating in treatment sessions.

The Family Approach
The tragic consequences that parental drug and alcohol abuse can have on children have been well documented. These children are at a higher risk for physical, mental and emotional health problems.
Family Treatment Centers provide a stable, caring environment for women and two of their children up to the age of 12. Our programs give families:
- The skills and support they need to manage their recovery.
- The opportunity to reunite.
- Group and individual therapy.
Covering the Basics
Research by the National Institute on Drug Abuse indicates that treatment of women drug abusers is more successful when it addresses basic needs, including food, shelter, clothing, childcare and/or parental training. Treatment is especially effective when women can live at a treatment center with their children.
Family Treatment Centers help women and their families achieve wellness and preserve family connections by providing:
- Housing.
- Meals.
- Childcare.
- Parental training.
Excellent Support
Family Treatment Centers offer support both during and after treatment. Our program provides:
- A "Big Sister" peer who supports each woman through treatment.
- After-care planning for continued support.
- Support 24/7, 365 days a year.
