Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC)

The Therapeutic Learning Center empowers children with the skills and motivation they need to reach their potential, despite severe behavioral or developmental disorders such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Licensed by the PA Department of Education and the Department of Public Welfare, TLC is a private, academic, special education school and therapeutic treatment program. Serving children from Pre-K to 5th grade, it provides intense educational and therapeutic services, following a Treatment Plan and Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) created for each child.

TLC's curriculum is designed to teach students the school-related skills and behaviors they need to survive in a less restrictive environment. When students are ready, they are helped to transition to a regular school environment on either a part-time or a full-time basis.

TLC is designed for children who:

  • Have difficulty managing their emotions.
  • Have been diagnosed with an emotional disturbance.
  • Have behaviors that interfere significantly with their ability to learn in a school setting.
  • Require a small group setting.
  • Require high staff to student ratio.
  • Have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Need more intensive education and psychiatric services than the school district can provide.

Services include:

  • Special education services.
  • Arts & Literacy Program.
  • Adventure Club physical education program.
  • School-based behavioral and mental health services (partial hospitalization license).
  • Autism support services.
  • Consultation to schools.
  • Summer camp for kids with autism.

WHY IT WORKS

Our Therapeutic Learning Center offers a small, intimate setting with a student to staff ratio of 3:1. Children receive special individualized attention, and families receive support, as well. Our curriculum is based on Pennsylvania standards, and our center is licensed by the Department of Public Welfare, and the PA Department of Education as a Private Academic School. TLC is accessible by public transportation, and connects families to other Familylinks services to provide convenient and comprehensive care to struggling kids and their families.
