Familylinks Foundation
Welcome to the Familylinks Foundation!
When you support the Familylinks Foundation you provide vital services and programs for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Supporting Familylinks is a walk in the park!
Well...actually it's a walk on the North Shore. On Saturday, May 19th you, your family and friends can support Familylinks by walking in or sponsoring a walker for the 10th Annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community.
Highmark is underwriting 100 percent of the expenses, so all the funds raised for Familylinks will be used to support Familylinks’ programs and services. You can participate in any of the following ways:
- Sign up to walk as an individual or family.
- Recruit a team of walkers to walk for Familylinks
- Sign up as a “Virtual Walker”
- Sponsor another person who is already registered to walk for Familylinks

How does your support make a difference?
This is just one example of how your gift to the Familylinks Foundation can change a family.
Jalen had shown signs of developmental and behavioral issues as early as preschool. When she entered kindergarten in 2007, her oppositional and impulsive behaviors escalated. Later that same year, Jalen's father and paternal grandmother died in a tragic accident, which further exacerbated Jalen's issues. Jalen was also withdrawn and showed mood swings. In 2009 Jalen began receiving medication management and support services, but it became clear in 2010 that Jalen's home school district could no longer provide the support she needed.
In the fall of 2010, nine-year-old Jalen started school at the Familylinks Therapeutic Learning Center. Jalen is now in a very small class and works, often one-on-one, with a team of specially trained teachers and therapists. She has made significant improvements. As her service coordinator reports, "She has made so much improvement over the past school year and I think that you [Familylinks] and your staff have made a world of difference for her. She is such a different kid now! She has a more positive attitude and is much more accepting of positive attention and praise. She is really starting to grow up and seems to have some confidence and sense of accomplishment with her good grades!"
Without your financial support, Familylinks could not sustain the Therapeutic Learning Center or any of the other programs that help people become Strong. For life.

Donate appreciated securities. Gifts of stock may provide a tax advantage for you. If you sell securities, you owe capital gains tax on the appreciation. If you wish to donate them, you pay no capital gain tax and qualify for an income tax charitable deduction for the mean market value on the date of the gift. Please note that there are limitations depending on your income. If you wish to donate stock, please contact the Familylinks Development Department at 412-942-0549 for specific instructions.
Donate a life insurance policy. Life insurance can make an excellent gift if you have a policy that is no longer needed for its intended purpose or for your family's security. With the help of your insurance agent, you can make Familylinks the owner and beneficiary and receive tax benefits for doing so. New policies may also be created to provide such a benefit and on-going premium payments can be used for income tax charitable deductions. Finally, you can also simply designate Familylinks as the beneficiary of your policy, or a portion thereof, and retain ownership rights; however there is no tax benefit with this option.
Name Familylinks as a beneficiary in your estate plans. You may name Familylinks as a beneficiary of your will, living trust, or retirement plan. Your gift through your estate plan could be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the total value or the remainder of your estate after all other gifts have been made.
