Rental Housing Assistance
Sometimes after people complete a Familylinks' residential program, they have difficulty finding appropriate housing for themselves and their families. Often, this is due to poor credit history, lack of employment, or any number of personal problems.
While completion of a program has left them confident in their abilities to begin a new life, potential landlords may fail to appreciate the effort necessary to overcome past problems.
To help alleviate this barrier to a promising future, Familylinks operates two residential properties in Wilkinsburg. Both properties house former program graduates, as well as tenants from the community.
The units provide safe, secure, low-income housing, and have access to maintenance 24 hours a day.
Familylinks currently has an apartment available for immediate occupancy on Pasadena Street. The newly remodeled unit is a two bedroom duplex located on a remote quiet street in Wilkinsburg. The unit is $600/month plus all utilities. It features a new furnace, newly equipped kitchen and bathrooms, hardwood and carpeted floors, garage, and security system. Any interested parties should contact Ron Kraus at 412-389-3729.
WHY IT WORKS
Through the Shelter Plus Care and Rental Housing Assistance Programs, people and families with lower incomes are provided the opportunity to live in decent, well-maintained dwellings that are also sought by the general community. Living in housing among other people in a neighborhood helps to eliminate stigma and discrimination, and helps to ensure that individuals stay on the road to a brighter future.
