PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Familylinks Youth & Family Services provides residential short term emergency shelter for males and females age 13-17.  We offer a thorough assessment of each youth and their family to determine their need for service.  Our direct care staff monitors and implements a daily schedule with the youth in placement including therapeutic groups, recreational activities, life skill teaching, and daily events such as chores and homework.

The youth in placement do not possess good coping or problem solving skills and are often in placement against their will.  Most often our clients have histories of childhood trauma and neglect which contribute to their behavior issues.  Emotional and behavioral crisis is utilized as an opportunity to give the youth insight and teach new behavior.

INTERN POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Positions are located in a variety of community-based settings.  The Intern will shadow frontline staff who works with clients with complex needs, including but not limited to: mental health; alcohol and other drugs; communicable diseases; and at times verbal and physical aggression.  The Intern will promote healthy, professional, and teaching relationships with clients in all daily living activities that facilitate competency development, improve safety and increase overall well being.  The Intern will also assist staff with the daily implementation of treatment plans.  As designated by need or ability, the Intern will offer any specialty skills to the position (i.e. establish recreational activities, conduct art/music programs for youth, help plan events, design new curriculum or activities for program to utilize with clients, etc).

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree (or working towards degree) in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, or other related field.  Must be willing to learn de-escalation techniques and strength based approaches to working with youth in crisis situations.  We look for creativity and specialty skills to bring to our Youth & Family Services.

Requirements include a current Physical examination, a negative TB test, Act 33/34 clearance and FBI clearance.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Mostly evenings between the hours of 2:00 pm to midnight and at least one longer weekend day preferred (10am – midnight).  There is flexibility within those times based on your need/schedule.
