Autism Services

Autism has a wide spectrum of behaviors and symptoms, which means it also has a wide variety of treatments and approaches. Familylinks offers specialized help for children who have autism.

The Autism Program

Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States. In fact, one out of every 100 children in the U.S. has some form of autism. Unfortunately, there is no one treatment for the disorder. However, experts agree that early intervention provides the best opportunity for better developmental outcomes.

That's why Familylinks created the Autism Program, offering specialized instruction for children with autism in Pre-K through 4th grade, that combines educational and behavioral services designed to meet each child's unique needs.

Located in the Familylinks' Therapeutic Learning Center, the Autism Program accepts children from all school districts in Allegheny County and surrounding counties. Students attend the program an average of 6.75 hours per school day, and are assisted in developing their potential through:

  • Individual and small group instruction.
  • Discrete trial teaching and verbal behavior programming.
  • Assessment and progress monitoring.
  • Academic and functional skill development.
  • Social skills training.
  • Speech, occupational and physical therapy services.
  • Sensory Station.
  • Diagnostic evaluations.
  • Treatment planning.
  • Medication prescriptions/management.
