A Young Woman’s Journey From Self-Abuse to Self-Reliance
When "X" was referred to DOCS by an outside organization, she was on the verge of becoming homeless because she was not complying with the rules of the organization's program.
In keeping with DOCS' philosophy of never giving up on a person, "X" was accepted into the shelter on one condition: that she sign a contract promising she would not cut herself while in our program.
"X" was battling self-abuse, as well as alcohol abuse. She was also an incest survivor. While with DOCS, "X" began treatment for her alcohol abuse, and attended counseling for gender issues.
Today, she is clean and sober. With support from DOCS, "X" was able to move out of the shelter and into her own housing. She is now maintaining her own home with the promise of a better, healthier life.
