It's that time of year again! Familylinks' took to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on February 1st to strengthen our best strategies and lobby our principal ideas. Later in March, we'll be doubling our efforts in Harrisburg. This year in D.C., Fred and our lobbyists met with Congresspersons Tim Murphy, Keith Rothfus, Mike Doyle, and U.S. Senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey to talk about several programs, including our Transitional Living Program, Street Outreach Program, Community Housing Program (formerly known as Shelter Plus) and our Mentoring Initiative. The goal is to reinforce how these programs aide the commitment to ending homelessness by 2020 (a federal goal) and the Runaway Youth Act. In addition, Fred will be talking about how we can further get funding from the Agency on Aging or other federal funds for programs like Vintage and our Caregivers First Initiative. With 90% of Familylinks' funding coming from government and federally funded sources, relying on lobby days to inform or legislators is vital.
